An opportunity to represent Girlguiding UK at the Young Women’s World Forum
We would like to invite you to participate in the first ever Young Women’s World Forum as part of the Centenary celebrations of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting. This is the first of three world forums for girls and young women taking place between 2010 and 2012, throughout WAGGGS’ centenary celebrations. The UK will have two delegate places and one of them could be yours!
The event is being organized and hosted by Girlguiding UK in cooperation with WAGGGS.
Date: 19 – 24 October 2010
Location: Oxfordshire
Cost: £400 (includes food, accommodation and all activities throughout the Forum)
Age group: 18 – 25 years
Other criteria:
- active members (but they do not need to have attended any previous WAGGGS events)
- Very good French, English or Spanish speakers, so you are able to contribute and benefit fully from the Forum.
- Committed to working actively with the results of the Forum within Girlguiding UK
- Awareness/understanding of chosen MDGs
Girlguiding UK is part of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), which is the largest women’s organisation in the world.
Guiding shares the same principles in all of the 145 countries where there are members despite wide differences in culture.
Its extensive links to other organisations, such as the United Nations, lets us work directly to influence world youth policy and women’s rights.
There are many opportunities for girls in our County to experience international Guiding. Here are some ideas:
- Buy (or borrow) “Right Now” – a fantastic resource pack full of exciting activities, clearly laid out and explained for all sections.
- Look out for flyers advertising international activity days in the county and take girls from your unit along.
- Find out who in your area has been on an international trip who could do a talk for your unit.
- Guide & Senior Section units could go to an international camp in the UK, there are lots taking place every year. You can meet lots of international visitors, without leaving the UK! Contact the county international adviser for more details.
- Girls aged 14-17 can apply to go on a county international trip. Speak to your division international representative for more details.
- Get involved in supporting the Russian Guides partnership.
- Global education is a great way to introduce the girls to topical global issues, ranging from girls and education to refugees. There are a huge range of activities available to help you cover this interesting and varied topic.
- Look on www.girlguiding.org.uk at the international section – there are a lot of FREE downloadable resources around global education.
- International theme night – choose a country, continent or topic, and make all your activities relate to that during a meeting (e.g. food, games, dance, costumes, drama).
- Guide section can take part in ICE – international community experience.
